Music Mirrors have been shortlisted for the Guardian Award for innovation in mental health services in this year’s Advancing Healthcare awards! The judging panels meet on 14 February, and the final outcome will be known on 31 March. We are delighted at this opportunity to present and explain more about Music Mirrors and for the chance to see other exciting projects!
Earlier this year the Health Innovation Network (HIN); the Academic Health Science Network for South London, led a project to promote Music Mirrors across South London. This week they published their report on the work, with resources and a short information film to support families and carers in making and storing Music Mirrors,
You can access the report and film via the links below:
We are very grateful to HIN for their support, guidance and generosity, and to all those who participated. Their thoughtful feedback led to development of the extra resources making Music Mirrors even easier to make and use. Thank you!
At this year’s UK Dementia Congress we will be presenting a poster outlining a Music Mirrors training project earlier this year done in partnership with the Health Innovation Network (HIN) the the Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) for South London. We are very grateful to HIN for their generosity and guidance in helping to spread awareness
Compassion and kindness change our lives. But they can do even more if we also feel known and valued – when someone who cares knows just the right words to say or shares a memory to make us smile. It’s the same for all of us. But illness or circumstance can sometimes make it hard for us to speak for ourselves. This is when having a toolkit of our own special words, sounds or music can help to create understanding and bonds with those around us.
Please do think now of making Music Mirrors with family, friends, neighbours and others in your community. Start before they’re needed – it could make such a difference in the future.
